Considerations and Accommodations for LGBTQ+ Patients
Friends Hospital recognizes that members of the LGBTQ community have unique healthcare needs, and is committed to providing excellent care for members of the LGBTQ community throughout the Philadelphia area. We have worked hard to ensure that our policies and practices are welcoming and affirming for our LGBTQ patients:
- Individual rooms without roommates
- Placement of Transgender patients in gender-specific areas based upon their identity and preference
- Clinicians trained in providing services to LGBTQ patients
In addition, we are always happy to hear our current or former patients’ suggestions regarding how we can better serve the LGBTQ community.
Community Resources
The city of Philadelphia maintains an excellent directory of healthcare services, including mental health and substance misuse, for LGBTQ individuals throughout the city. This directory can be accessed here: https://healthymindsphilly.org/en/lgbtqia-resources/
Additionally, the Human Rights Campaign has a nationwide listing of hospitals healthcare providers that are committed to providing quality care to LGBTQ individuals called the Healthcare Equality Index. To be listed on the Healthcare Equality Index, a facility must meet a wide range of requirements, including training and equal access to care. You can search their database for a facility hear you: https://www.hrc.org/hei/search
