What to Bring
Additional items may be prohibited on a particular unit at the discretion of staff. Friends Hospital reserves the right to ban any objects determined to be dangerous.
Required Items
You should plan to bring only:
- Three changes of comfortable and casual clothing
- Appropriate slip-on footwear
- Personal care items such as a toothbrush and shampoo
Controlled Items
Items generally permitted on units but use is controlled by staff include:
- Mirrors or compacts
- Glass items
- Sewing needles, knitting needles and crochet hooks
- Aerosol cans
- Fingernail polish and polish remover
- Scissors, nail clippers and tweezers
- Perfume and cologne
- Medical equipment with detachable cords (Plant Operation must check all items before use)
Contraband
Items that are not to be in patient possession at any time include:
- Weapons of any nature
- Alcohol or illegal substances
- Razors
- Cigarettes, cigars or any other tobacco products (includes e-cigarettes)
- Cameras or recording devices of any kind
- House and car keys
- Alcohol-based mouthwash
- Medications (unless ordered by physician for bedside use)
- Matches or lighters
- Safety pins
- Laptop computers, cell phones or personal electronic devices
- Belts, shoestrings, drawstrings or scarves
- Neck jewelry
- Hair dryers, curling irons or straightening combs
